Technical Information:
N44 and N55 type styli are interchangeable and can be mounted on SHURE M44 (various variants) and M55(E) cartridges. However, there are key differences between an N44E and an N55E:
- The original N44E features an elliptical tip with radii of 10 x 18 µ (.0004" x .0007") and a recommended tracking force of 1.75 to 4 g.
- The original N55E features a finer elliptical tip of 5 x 18 µ (.0002 x .0007") and a recommended tracking force between 0.75 and 2 g.
Visually, an N44E can be identified by its brown plastic body, while an N55E features a creamy yellow plastic body. High-quality aftermarket styli generally respect these original specifications. Depending on your cartridge and usage, you should choose either the N44E (more versatile: Hi-Fi, radio, DJ/disco) or the N55E (intended purely for Hi-Fi listening).

WARNING: Some aftermarket copies misleadingly claim to be "elliptical" when they are actually standard conical with a spherical tip shape.
